On the Winnipeg Jets …
- Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: If Andrew Ladd doesn’t have a contract in place by the trade deadline, the Jets will trade him. Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was on Sportsnet’s Hockey Central at noon.
“There’s probably either a deal (contract extension) to be had or a trade to be made,” Cheveldayoff said during the appearance. “We’ll look at all those situations as they present themselves.”
There will be plenty of teams interested in Ladd if the Jets make him available. Teams that could be a good fit for Ladd include the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders.
The Jets had assistant GM Larry Simmons and their pro scout Mark Dobson watching the Blackhawks – Stars game on Thursday.
On the New York Islanders …
- Brian Compton: Almost 100 percent certain that Travis Hamonic will finish the season with the Islanders. The Islanders will be active on the trade market.
- Arthur Staple: Despite all the trade rumor chatter, from Staple’s understanding the Islanders have zero interest in doing a Travis Hamonic for Jacob Trouba trade … now and in the offseason.
- Arthur Staple: Trouba’s agent is Kurt Overhardt, who was also the agent for holdouts Brandon Dubinsky, Kyle Turris and Ryan Johansen.
- Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Elliotte Friedman on CHED 630 on Jacob Trouba and Travis Hamonic.
“The Trouba-Hamonic thing – the New York Islanders aren’t doing anything that jeopardizes their chances to win this year. I think they’re all in for this year.
“They’ve talked about Trouba for Hamonic. They’ve asked. When Winnipeg talked about Hamonic, the first thing that the Jets did was they said, ‘Well, would you do it for Byfuglien?’
“The Islanders said, ‘No, we want somebody with term.’
“They asked for Trouba, the Islanders did, and the Jets said, ‘No.’
