Garrioch NHL Rumor Roundup …
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: If the Hurricanes are going to trade Eric Staal, and if he’d accept, they are going to have to retain a portion of his $8.25 million cap hit. GM Ron Francis has been working the phones. Francis needs to get a deal in place first before seeing if Staal would waive the NTC. The Rangers would be a perfect fit.
Jonathan Drouin trade talks have intensified this weekend. GM Steve Yzerman is looking for immediate help and a prospect or two. The Senators, Rangers, Blues, Sharks and Jets have kicked tires.
Loui Eriksson is said to be looking for a long-term contract worth around $6 million. The Bruins haven’t been willing to go to his term and money. If they are going to trade him, they will need to find someone to replace him, and that person may not be as good. Bruins need to decide if they want to try and get another first round pick, a prospect and another pick for him.
The Panthers tried to trade for Dale Weise before he was moved to the Blackhawks.
The Penguins will try to trade Chris Kunitz before the deadline. He’s got another year left on his deal at $3.85 million, which will make it hard to move him.
If Eriksson isn’t dealt, Mikkel Boedker becomes the next best forward.
The Sabres haven’t been able to come to terms with Jamie McGinn and he could be on the move. The Sabres are looking for second round pick for him.
The Blues aren’t finished. GM Doug Armstrong would like to add some more offense. It’s believed Armstrong talked to the Bruins and Coyotes, but found the asking prices too high.
The Islanders have shown interest in P.A. Parenteau.
The Bruins, Panthers, Lightning, Kings, Penguins, Wild, Capitals, Stars, Avalanche and Islanders are all looking for defense. Believed that they’ve all called the Flames about Kris Russell. Other options include David Schlemko, Patrick Wiercioch and Ron Hainsey. Dan Hamhuis is another option, but he has a NMC and might have interest in going to Dallas.
Scott Hartnell and Fedor Tyutin are available.
