- Andy Strickland of True Hockey: Ville Leino was in the middle of contract extension talks with the Flyers when GM Paul Holmgren approached Leino with the option to either get a deal done now or wait until after the season so that they could trade for Kris Versteeg. They don’t have enough ‘tag room’ to do a deal now.
- Mark Spector via twitter: Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa has a broken foot, the Vancouver Sun is reporting he’ll be out 2-3 weeks. The Canucks have 6 of their top 8 defenseman out with injuries: Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Ballard, Alberts, and Sweatt.
