Marchand to return for the Winter Classic

Amalie Benjamin: Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand will return to the lineup today: “I don’t think there was any doubt. It would take a lot to miss a game like this. Kind of like a suspension or something like that.”

Three Flames skating

Kristen Anderson: Calgary Flames forwards James Neal and Mikael Backlund and defenseman Travis Hamonic skated yesterday.

Carrick returns

SportsDay Stars: Dallas Stars defenseman Connor Carrick returned to the lineup after missing the past 29 games with a foot injury.

Red Wings lose another defenseman

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: Detroit Red Wings defenseman Trevor Daley will be out three to five weeks with a broken foot.

Both Mike Green and Danny DeKeyser are still weeks away from returning.

Yamamoto out, Russell close

Daniel Nugent-Bowman: Edmonton Oilers forward Kailer Yamamoto suffered an upper-body injury on Saturday.

Daniel Nugent-Bowman: Oilers defenseman Kris Russell and forward Alex Chiasson are still on the IR. Coach Ken Hitchcock said that he hopes Russell will be able to return to during their road trip. Hitchcock added that he hopes Chiasson will be able to start skating on Wednesday.

Shaw suffers  an upper-body injury

Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: Montreal Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw suffered an upper-body injury in the first period of yesterday.

Turris to the IR

Adam Vingan: Nashville Predators forward Kyle Turris was put on the IR. He’s day-to-day with a lower-body injury

Brooks Bratten: All three of Filip Forsberg, Colton Sissons and Yannick Weber are on the IR and all three skated yesterday.

Wait and see for Andersen’s groin issue

Lance Hornby: Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said they will see how Frederik Andersen does at practice tomorrow before commenting on his groin injury,
