The Edmonton Oilers need to move out Andrew Mangiapane’s money to add a top-nine forward. Could they be eyeing the Maple Leafs?
TSN: Andrew Mangiapane has another year left on his contract at $3.6 million, and it’s likely going to cost the Edmonton Oilers if they want to move him, according to Pierre LeBrun. The Oilers are looking for a top-nine forward, preferably a third-line center, but they need to move Mangiapane’s money.
“One name that’s been out there as a potential fit for the Oilers is that of Nick Roy.
I will just say that while I think that is accurate, it’s really more just the fact that Roy, of the Leafs, is exactly the type of player that would fit what the Oilers are looking for in the sense that there are other players like him too that are on the Oilers’ list, as far as I know.”
The Oilers want someone who can play a physical game and is a playoff-type player.

What is next for the Edmonton Oilers? Two options are…
TSN: On the late version of Insider Trading, Pierre LeBrun adds again that Nicolas Roy of the Toronto Maple Leafs has the attributes that the Edmonton Oilers are looking for in a third-line center. LeBrun said that the Oilers haven’t made the Leafs a trade offer for Roy yet.
“If not him, there’s a bigger name out there right now in Brayden Schenn, who has two more years on his deal at $6.5 million a year. The Blues would have to retain salary for that to ever make sense for Edmonton, but again, ruggedness, physicality, that’s the top of forward they would like to get in Edmonton before the trade deadline.”

On any Darnell Nurse trade speculation
Jason Gregor: “In regard to Oilers trading Nurse. Important to remember he has a full NMC. His wife gave birth to their third child a few days ago. Agreeing to a trade now would cause significant upheaval to his wife and family. Totally understandable if he isn’t interested right now.”
