Mike Rupp: “What do you think the Penguins? Kind of surprising everybody. We did, devo and I were doing that, talking about it earlier, like, what do you think they’re going to do this Friday?”
Pagnotta: “They’re cautiously exploring the market, from the sounds of things. Now, they do have some pieces that are of interest in teams. Like, Anthony Mantha has had a bit of a resurgence of a season, and there are teams that wouldn’t mind prying him out of Pittsburgh. But the Penguins like him, too.
So they’re kind of proceeding with caution. They don’t want to derail their season by any stretch by giving guys out and selling them off. They want to reward their players, including Geno and Sid, Letang, and Karlsson, for having this type of season and getting them in the mix to battle for not just a playoff spot, but home ice.

But they’re going to cautiously kind of see what’s available to them. Now, the one thing that they’ve done has expedited their rebuild, to a certain extent, in terms of filling up their cupboard.
They’ve got some extra draft picks that they’re willing to explore on. And at the same time, they’ve got some prospects that they could dangle as well. Reclamation projects are something they like in Pittsburgh. They’re going to fish for that.
But at the same time, if there’s an opportunity to add somebody similar to what we’ve talked about with Utah, somebody that has term, the Penguins wouldn’t mind utilizing some of their assets in order to bring something like that in. But might be more geared towards an offseason type decision for Kyle Dubas and the staff there.”
