A owners-players meeting without NHL and NHLPA leaders proposed by Bettman
  • Katie Strang via twitter: Multiple sources are saying that Gary Bettman proposed to Don Fehr a meeting between only the owners and players, without the NHL and NHLPA staff present. Darren Dreger via twitter: Fehr and the PA are considering Bettman’s offer.
  • Pierre LeBrun via twitter: In Bill Daly’s email about Bettman’s offer: “We want to find a way to get to a deal. Nothing else has worked. The Commissioner felt that we might as well propose something different. We will see how they respond.”
  • Ian Pulver via twitter: Pulver is hearing that the NHL wants to “hand pick” and “screen” which players would be allowed to attend the owners-players meeting if it happens. Allan Walsh via twitter: Walsh has heard the same.
  • Katie Strang via twitter: Who is allowed/invited to attend the proposed owner-players meeting will be discussed as the NHLPA thinks on the idea.
  • Darren Dreger via twitter: Not all owners would be at this meeting if it happens. Dreger isn’t sure why either side wouldn’t welcome this idea.
  • Nick Cotsonika via twitter: “Players think Gary is problem. Owners think Don is problem. Fine. Get them out of the room, keep lawyers to protect players and talk.”
  • Louis Jean via twitter: “My sense is players aren’t too enchanted by league proposal for players/owners only meeting. “It’s a stunt” said one player.”
  • Brian Lawton via twitter: Lawton has heard that many owners want a chance to express themselves directly to the players.
