Afternoon Hits: Stepan, Thomas, Schneider, Waivers, Blues, Lightning and Gaborik
  • Pierre LeBrun: Derek Stepan’s deal with the Rangers is for two-years and $6.15 million.
  • Bob McKenzie: The Panthers and Tim Thomas have a deal in place and the signing will occur after the Panthers ownership change is official. If the deal is signed today, he could be in the lineup tonight. Should be a one-year deal in the $3 to $4 million range. Deal should have a lower salary base with performances bonuses to get it above $3 million.
  • Todd Cordell: Bob McKenzie said on the radio yesterday that the Devils wouldn’t hesitate to give Cory Schneider the starting job if necessary.
  • Tim Wharnsby: Put on waivers today: Ott – Cowick, O’Brien, Eckford, Lawson; Mtl – Tarnasky, St-Pierre, Blunden; LA – Bodnarchuk; SJ – Petrecki.
  • Lou Korac: Blues reassign to the AHL: Rattie, Jaskin, Andronov, Aucoin, Hakanpaa, Edmundson & Allen.
  • Andy Strickland: There is a decent chance that Brenden Morrow starts the year with Derek Roy and Chris Stewart.
  • Damian Cristoder: Lightning’s J.T. Brown replacing Ryan Malone (upper-body) on a line with Tom Pyatt and Nikita Kucherov.
  • Shawn Mitchell: Blue Jackets Marian Gaborik is not injured. Will rejoin the team next week as he’s away for family reason.
