Martin Brodeur will soon become the NHL’s career shutout leader, as he recorded his 102nd SO last night. Brodeur’s 26 save performance against the Carolina Hurricanes left him 1 shutout behind the great Terry Sawchuk. I remember thinking years ago, that Sawchuk’s record my never be broken, New Jersey’s defensive system sure changed that.
Brodeur’s career numbers are incredible. 561 wins, 302 loses, 128 ties, a 2.21 GAA and a .913 save percentage, all over 1006 games. He’s even scored a goal.
A major decision regarding Ilya Kovalchuk’s future could be made in the next couple weeks. Kovalchuk will be an unrestricted free agent at seasons end, and he’s deciding on if he should re-sign with the Thrashers or test the free agent market. There are rumblings that it would either be the Thrashers or a team in the KHL. If he leaves Atlanta, it would be a huge blow to the team, not to mention to my fantasy keeper team.
