NHL Trade: Ducks Trade Andersen To The Maple Leafs
Frederik Andersen traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs

The Anaheim Ducks have traded goalie Frederik Andersen to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 1st round pick – No. 30 that previously belong to the Penguins – and a 2017 2nd round pick.

The Maple Leafs then signed Andersen to a five-year, $25 million contract extension.

The 26-year old Andersen is a RFA. He was first drafted by the Hurricanes, 187th overall in the seventh round of the 2010 draft. He didn’t sign with them and re-entered the draft in 2012. The Ducks selected him 87th overall in the 3rd round.

Thoughts from the media …

Pierre LeBrun: “A few teams are surprised at the money Andersen got ($5 M per year) but if he’s what the Leafs think he is, should be reasonable in long run”

James Mirtle: “The term is a bit more troubling to me. But all depends how good he ends up being.”

Chris Johnston: “Frederik Andersen says he had some discussions with Anaheim on a new contract, but is happy with the way everything turned out.”

Chris Johnston: “Andersen says the trade was contingent on him reaching a contract extension with the #leafs.”

Jim Matheson: “That is helluva deal for leafs getting Andersen. I believe he was Calg’s first choice but not giving up their first rounder”

Chris Johnston: “Word was the #NHLDucks were asking for a first-rounder as main piece in any Andersen trade. They got it from #leafs — albeit at No. 30.”

Matt Larkin: “Love the Andersen trade for Leafs and Ducks. Made too much sense for both parties.”

Jason Gregor: “Really good trade for Leafs. Get a good young goalie with 114 NHL starts for 30th pick and a 2nd. Reimer to CGY as UFA now?”

Shelly Anderson: “Hmm. Could Leafs have info that MA Fleury isn’t on the trade market, at least not now?”

What do you think of the trade?
