Bruins could get two back for the Winter Classic

Boston Bruins: Forward Brad Marchand and defenseman Charlie McAvoy could be ready to return for the Winter Classic.

Sabers lose Girgensons

John Vogl: Forward Zemgus Girgensons is week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

Shattenkirk could return

Andy Strickland: New York Rangers defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has made some progress and it’s possible that he plays tomorrow night.

Chabot could be out a month

Craig Medaglia of NHL.com: Ottawa Senators defenseman Thomas Chabot will be out about four weeks with an upper-body injury.

Defenseman Christian Jaros is week-to-week with a broken finger. He’s expected to be out three weeks.

Forward Magnus Paajarvi is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Update on Rust should come today

Pens Inside Scoop: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust has a lower-body injury and an update should come today.

Miller out for an extended period of time

Lightning Insider: Tampa Bay Lightning forward J.T. Miller is listed as week-to-week and is expected to be out for an extended period of time.

The Lightning have put Miller on the IR.

Andersen has a groin injury

Rotoworld: Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen is listed as day-to-day with a groin injury.

Jonas Siegel: Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said they would know more on Andersen’s status in the next couple of days. The Maple Leafs are off until Thursday.

Niskanen out day-to-day

NBC Sports Capitals: Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Defenseman Brooks Orpik is getting close to returning.
