Florida Panthers Are 2027 Stanley Cup Favorites

The Florida Panthers made a major acquisition on Sunday they traded for Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators.

The Florida Panthers missed the 2026 playoffs after a 40-38-4 season, but the market has quickly moved past that collapse. According to the NHL betting experts at Sports Illustrated, Florida enters 2026-27 as the betting favorite to win the 2027 Stanley Cup at +650, ahead of the Colorado Avalanche at +750, Carolina Hurricanes at +800, and Vegas Golden Knights at +850.

It is a dramatic reset for a club that reached three straight Stanley Cup Finals before injuries, fatigue, and uneven goaltending caught up with it last season. The Panthers used the summer to reshape their roster around a still-loaded core led by Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Reinhart, and Aaron Ekblad.

Stanley Cup futures and NHL season point totals often get lost when the NFL and NBA seasons begin their annual September push. That creates an early window for bettors using online betting sites to compare prices, assess roster changes, and decide whether a team’s market number matches its realistic ceiling. The 2026-27 NHL season opens Tuesday, September 29, 2026, featuring an expanded 84-game schedule for the first time since 1993-94.

Florida’s +650 price carries an implied probability near 13.3 percent before accounting for the sportsbook margin. That is a strong vote of confidence, but it also makes the Panthers a team bettors must evaluate carefully. The price reflects upside, not certainty.

Why Florida Is Back On Top

The Panthers made the biggest move of the NHL offseason by acquiring Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators. Florida paid a steep price, sending two 2026 first-round picks, a conditional 2029 first-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick to Ottawa.

Brady Tkachuk recorded 22 goals and 59 points in 60 games last season. He gives Florida another physical, high-volume top-six forward and creates the potential for an imposing front line with Barkov and Reinhart. His arrival also puts the Tkachuk brothers on the same roster for the first time.

Florida addressed goaltending by trading for Jacob Markstrom after allowing Sergei Bobrovsky to leave in free agency. Markstrom joins Akira Schmid after the Panthers sent Evan Rodrigues, Jesper Boqvist, and Ben Steeves to New Jersey. Bobrovsky posted a 3.07 goals-against average and .877 save percentage in 52 starts during the lost 2025-26 season and was willing to take a hometown discount. However, he turns 38 in September, and the three-year deal from the Toronto Maple Leafs could have put the team in a tough position in the years to come.

The Panthers also added Lars Eller, Garnet Hathaway, Radko Gudas, and Sam Lafferty. Those moves deepen the bottom six and restore edge on the blue line. Gudas should bring a familiar physical style, while Eller gives the club another experienced two-way center.

The key question is whether Markstrom can stabilize the crease at age 36. Florida does not need him to carry the team. It needs reliable league-average-or-better goaltending behind a lineup that should be healthier and deeper than the one that missed the playoffs.

A reasonable projection puts Florida in the 102-106 point range. That would return the Panthers to the Atlantic Division race and give them a strong chance to secure home ice in the first round. The roster has enough scoring, defense, and playoff experience to justify contender status. The goaltending transition keeps the Cup bet from being an automatic play at a short price.

Stanley Cup Odds And Futures Value

Florida opened around +1100 and has climbed to +650 after its offseason work. The move matters. Bettors who backed the Panthers before the Brady Tkachuk trade hold a far better number than anyone entering now.

The Cup market is best viewed as a long-term investment. A +650 ticket returns $650 in profit on a $100 wager if Florida wins the championship, but the money remains tied up until June. The better approach for many bettors is waiting for early regular-season evidence, especially from Markstrom and the special teams.

Season points offer a different route. Florida’s projected range above 100 points makes an Over attractive only if a market posts a total below 100.5. Any number near 103.5 or higher becomes more difficult because the Atlantic remains crowded, and the Panthers will face a heavy workload after a major roster overhaul.

Bettors should also watch division and conference futures. Florida has a more direct path to an Eastern Conference Final than a repeat of last season’s non-playoff finish suggests. Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Reinhart, Carter Verhaeghe, Anton Lundell, Gustav Forsling, and Ekblad remain the foundation. Brady Tkachuk raises the ceiling.

Three Teams Chasing Florida

Carolina sits at +800 after winning the 2026 Stanley Cup over Vegas in five games. The Hurricanes kept most of their championship roster together, including Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, Seth Jarvis, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Pyotr Kochetkov. Their biggest loss came in net, where Frederik Andersen left for Edmonton after going 13-2 with a 1.89 goals-against average during Carolina’s playoff run. Carolina chose continuity over major additions, and that decision keeps it near the top of the board.

Colorado is listed at +750 and remains dangerous because Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar can tilt any series. The Avalanche added Zach L’Heureux, Fedor Svechkov, Jaden Schwartz, and Noah Juulsen while retaining Brent Burns and extending Brett Kulak. They also moved on from Ross Colton, Valeri Nichushkin, and Jack Drury. Colorado owned the league’s best regular-season profile last year, including the top scoring attack, best goals-against mark, and strongest goal differential. Its number deserves respect, though postseason results will determine whether the roster changes actually improved the group.

Vegas is at +850 after reaching the 2026 Stanley Cup Final. The Golden Knights signed Victor Olofsson, re-signed Rasmus Andersson, and hired Craig as head coach. They also traded Pavel Dorofeyev to the New York Rangers and sent Akira Schmid to the Florida Panthers. Vegas still has high-end talent and a proven ability to make aggressive moves, but trading Dorofeyev removes a major scoring piece. Its price is longer than Florida’s for good reason.

Florida has rebuilt fast after an ugly finish. The Panthers may have missed the playoffs in 2026, but the roster now looks designed for a rapid return to contention. Bettors should respect the market move, monitor Markstrom’s early form, and avoid chasing the shortest number simply because the Panthers have become the popular offseason story.
