Free agent notes on Connolly, Blues, Simmonds, Sabres, and Kaberle
  • Dustin Leed via facebook: Leed corrects himself on how close the Flyers are with Wayne Simmonds, they are not close on a deal.
  • John Vogl of the Buffalo News: Ville Leino played left wing last season for the Flyers, but he’ll be a centerman with the Sabres. He grew up a centerman, and prefers the position. The Sabres are about $1.7 million over the salary cap and will have to move some salary before the start of next season.

    “Over the course of the summer, we’ll focus in on possible trade opportunities, see if there’s any way to continue to improve this team,” Regier said, “but we feel very good about where we are right now.”

  • Douglas Flynn of NESN: The Bruins are still talking with defenseman Tomas Kaberle,

    “I’ve had a few discussions today with him and that’s where I’ll leave it,” Chiarelli said. “But I have had a couple of discussions and again, I’m not ruling out re-signing Tomas.”

    On other free agents,

    “We’re still talking to a couple players,” Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said Friday evening. “I don’t see anything imminent in the next evening or day but that’s about all I can tell you right now.”
