- The Ducks are going to have to offer up front loaded deals for Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf if they want to keep both like they say they do. Many don’t think Getzlaf will go anywhere and there was talk they were close a $60 million deal before the lockout started. There were contract discussions with Perry in the summer, but they didn’t go anywhere. If GM Bob Murray can’t get one or both signed, he can’t afford to lose them for nothing.
- Some NHL types think the NHL should fold the Phoenix Coyotes this summer since the Greg Jamison deal has fallen through and hold a dispersal draft for their players. One NHL executive said the NHL would rather have the expansion money, around $400 million per team, from areas like Quebec City, Kansas City and Seattle instead of relocating them there. They also want to put a second Toronto team in Markham. Moving the Coyotes to Quebec City does make the most sense though.
- Garrioch wonders if the Capitals should have tried to keep goalie Tomas Vokoun.
- The Sharks now have 8 healthy defensemen, and they’d like to add a veteran winger before the April 3rd trade deadline.
- The Wild’s acquisition of winger Devin Setoguchi hasn’t worked out and he could be moved. He has one year left on his deal at $3 million.
- The Hurricanes would like to add some grit to their blueline. Joe Corvo has been a healthy scratch and could be moved. Jamie McBain could also be moved.
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The NHL and NHLPA are expected to talk about realignment next week for the 2013-14 season. The NHL tried to set up a 4 conference (2 with 7 teams and 2 with 8 teams) for this season but the NHLPA would not consent to it.
“We are working on a realignment plan for next season,” Daly wrote, “but it has not been finalized or approved yet.”
“We expect to talk with the league on the subject this week,” Fehr told Slap Shots. “A year ago, when we raised the issue of increased travel for teams, the league did not have mock schedules for us to review that might have alleviated our concern.
“And we had an issue with the fact that teams would either have a mathematical advantage or disadvantage of qualifying for the playoffs depending upon whether they’d be in a seven-team or eight-team conference.”
- Aaron Portzline via twitter: As of yesterday, the NHL waiver claim order will be the ‘current’ day’s standings and not last season’s final standing.
- Jeremy Rutherford via twitter: Blues Jamie Langenbrunner has a torn labrum. He’ll have surgery and be out for the season.
- Tom Gulitti via twitter: Mathieu Darche said there is no change on his situation with the Devils. Still not signed by the team.
