Geoffrion has surgery for depressed skull fracture … No issue if Luongo remains a Canuck … NHL-NHLPA have lunch

  • Pat Hickey vai twitter: Blake Geoffrion had surgery for a depressed skull fracture. He’s out indefinitely but is expected to make a full recovery. (video of the clean hit was posted yesterday)
  • Dan Rosen via twitter: Canucks GM Mike Gillis: “I don’t see that big of an issue if Roberto is with us. I don’t see that as an issue at all.”
  • TSN: If a new CBA gets done, and they go with a shortened schedule, how much the players will make need to be figured out.

“It has an impact (on talks),” NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr acknowledged Friday night.

A best case scenario is a 68 game schedule starting on December 1st. 210 games will have been cancelled and they won’t make the $3.3 billion in revenue they did last season. The NHLPA is looking to draft the deal as if there would be a 82 game schedule in year 1, the $1.833 billion in salaries last season plus 1.75%. That works out to $1.915 billion for 2012-13, but a reduction for the cancelled games would have to be figured out. Salaries would go up in the 1.75% in fixed increments each year.

“Based on their reaction (Friday), for some reason that I don’t quite understand, they’re unwilling to do that,” said Fehr.

The NHL would rather go off of percentages than fixed increments. The NHL offered 50-50 each year, $211 million in deferred payments, plus 2% interest to cover anticipated losses due to the lockout. The NHLPA says it would take $590 million to ‘make whole.’

  • Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Both sides met in small groups for lunch yesterday in New York. Bill Daly and Steve Fehr will talk today to work on logistics for their next group meeting. The owners who were at the meetings on Friday did not go to lunch with the others.

“(The owners) want games, and we want to play — everybody has that in common, especially right now,” Marc-Andre Fleury said. “You just hope things don’t go bad and everybody stops talking.”

  • Kevin McGran via twitter: Mathieu Darche talks to 20-25 players a day by phone, text or email to keep them update.
