The Vancouver Canucks have trade Hunter Shinkaruk to the Calgary Flames for Markus Granlund.

The 21-year old Shinkaruk was drafted 24th overall in the first round of the 2013 draft by the Canucks.

The 22-year old was drafted 45th overall in the second round of the 2011 draft by the Flames.

Aaron Vickers: Hunter Shinkaruk: “”Right now I’m just so excited. I’ll have a smile on my face, ear-to-ear, all day. It’s been great. That chance to put on that jersey, that jersey that I watched and looked up to is pretty cool.”

Thoughts from the media:

Grant McCagg: “Benning wasn’t GM when Shinkaruk was drafted.. didn’t think he was a 1st rd. guy at the time..producing in AHL, but doesn’t always translate”

Jason Brough: “Benning said they tried to get a d-man for Shinkaruk, but Granlund was the best they could get.”

Jason Botchford: “Baertschi plays same position with similar skill set. Trading shinkaruk has seemed plausible for some time. Timing and return feel off, tho”

Gus Katsaros: “Flames gave up on Baertschi, Van bound. Canucks gave up on Shinkaruk, Flames bound. It’s a two-way street. ”

Carolyn Wilke: “Granlund is RFA this summer. So, much better deal here for CGY than just the player. ”

Steve Dangle: ‘Cannot believe the Canucks turned what they were into what they are now so quickly.”
