  • Dan Rosen of NHL.com: Rangers Ryan Callahan will likely start the season on the IR following his offseason shoulder surgery.

“Right now I don’t ,” Callahan said. “I guess you never know, but you’ve gotta see how it progresses. That’s really what it’s all about. The next step is contact and that’s a whole new situation where you have to make sure it feels good during contact. To put a date on it or a timeframe it would be a guess. I think once you start getting into contact then you have a better idea of when you’ll be back.”

  • Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Stars Rich Peverley will miss three weeks after have a procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat. He is able to skate but can’t do contract drills.

“It turns out he had an `a-fib’ condition,” Nill said. “He’ll be out three weeks and should be available close to the start of the season. He might miss one or two games.”

  • George Richards of the Miami Herald: Panthers Jonathan Huberdeau will miss Monday’s game with a hip issue. Coach Kevin Dineen said he’ll get into some preseason games later in camp. Nick Bjugstad will also be out Monday after suffering a concussion last weekend.
  • Dennis Bernstein: Dustin Brown’s hamstring issue is not related to his knee injury he suffered in the playoffs. There is little concern.
  • Sam Carchidi: Max Talbot’s broken leg is 100 percent healed.
