Edmonton Oilers

On the Edmonton Oilers …

  • Renaud Lavoie: Justin Schultz was a healthy scratch last night and it might have been trade related.
  • Jim Matheson: The Oilers may have oversold Justin Schultz’s talents, but about 90 percent of the league wanted to sign him when he was a free agent.

On the Nashville Predators …

  • Adam Vingan of The Tennessean: (mailbag) Predators GM David Poile said before the All-Star break that he was looking at the trade market for scoring help.

“We have to get more production, more consistency, so that would be the first place I would look,” he said.

They could use a left winger to play with Ryan Johansen and James Neal. Vingan mentions Scott Hartnell as a possibility, but he hsa three years left at a $4.75 million cap hit and a full no-trade clause.

On Holding Out …

  • Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Tribune: Kyle Turris knows what Jonathan Drouin is going through, as Turris requested a trade from the Coyotes, and held out the first six weeks of the season. One difference was that Turris was an RFA, Drouin has a contract.

“It’s tough,” Turris said Monday. “Everyone has mixed feelings, and especially not being an established player. Then people are doubting that you’re doing the right thing, you really have to have confidence in yourself and your ability to do it.

“It was very difficult to do. You’re getting a lot of heat from the media and people, and people within the organization. It was a tough, tough go.”
