Leafs could acquire bad contract for buyout, Stars prospect passes and Oilers prospect missing

  • Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Dallas Stars prospect Scott Winkler (23) was found dead in his home in Norway yesterday morning. Winkler had just graduated from Colorado College and was expected to play with with the Texas Stars in the AHL next season.
  • Edmonton Journal: Oilers prospect Kristians Pelss has been missing since early week, with reports that he died after jumping off a bridge late on Tuesday, though police haven’t confirmed the death. He arrived in Latvia on Monday and had not been in contact with since arriving.

    “There has been contradictory information reported, at times, and we are trying to confirm the facts,” the team said. “Once we are able to do that, we will be able to offer further comment. At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Pelss family.”
