  • Stephen Whyno: The Bruins have signed GM Peter Chiarelli to a contact extension through 2017-18.
  • Chris Johnston: Matthew Lombardi signed a one-year deal with Geneve-Servette in Switzerland.
  • B.D. Gallof: The Islanders only have a few roster spots open: 3rd line center, one defenseman and a backup goalie. The Isles will like give Pierre-Marc Bouchard the first shot on the top line. Brock Nelson and Cal Clutterbuck will get a shot at the third line.
  • Jonathan Willis: Kevin Lowe is saying that Sam Gagner as the Oilers captain is a little premature. It will be Dallas Eakins’ decision and hasn’t made it yet.
  • Chip Alexander: Consensus is that Cam Ward is in the best physical condition in his career, which is good for the Hurricanes.
  • Alex Nunn: Fredrik Sjostrom (30) has retired from hockey. He will be a scout with Frolunda in Sweden and North America.
  • Brendan Ross: Senators prospect Jarrod Maidens is skating after sitting out two years with a concussion.
