Morning Hits: Kulemin, Raymond, MacKinnon, Cleary, Ekman-Larsson, Grabovski and Hybrid Icing
  • Sean Gentile of the Sporting News: (before Kadri signed – s/t Spector’s Hockey) Gentile wonders if the Maple Leafs would consider trading Nikolai Kulemin with the goal of not taking back any salary. If they signed Mason Raymond to an $800,000 deal, it would free up $2 million to go towards signing Cody Franson. Franson was looking for 4 years and $4.5 million but may have to settle for two year around $2.5 million according to Dreger.
  • Mike Chambers: Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said that Nathan MacKinnon will stay with the team no matter what.
  • Elliotte Friendman: Appears to be complications between Daniel Cleary and the Flyers and have been told that he won’t be joining the Flyers.
  • Aaron Ward: Ward is hearing that Daniel Cleary met with Mike Babcock and Ken Holland in Traverse City, Michigan.
  • Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: (posted yesterday) There are reports that Daniel Cleary’s deal with the Flyers is dead, but that may not be the case.

“I don’t know anything until I hear it from the horse’s mouth,” Holmgren said.

And a team source said Wednesday the deal is “not dead yet.”

  • Sam Carchidi: (posted this morning) Daniel Cleary is not at Flyers camp this morning.
  • Jerry Brown of NHL.com: Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson forgot to get his immigration paper in order and will miss at least a day of training camp.

“I’m not happy about it,” Maloney said. “It’s something that players are required to take care of and (his actions) shows a lack of getting after it. He’s always in great shape and he’s an important guy. But we have 57 players here and we’re supposed to have 58 and there’s no excuse for it.”

  • Chuck Gormley: Capitals Mikhail Grabovski is stuck in Toronto waiting for his visa clearance.
  • David Pollak: The Sharks will have 54 players in camp. 46 will be in Groups A and B, the other may be extreme long-shots.
  • Lance Hornby: The Maple Leafs have brought most of their rookie camp roster to the main camp.
  • Michael Smith: Hybrid icing will be used during the preseason and will be voted on by the players afterwards.
