  • Nikita Nesterov was suspended two games for his hit from behind on Curtis McKenzie.

Injury Updates …

  • Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News: Sharks forward Logan Couture will be out four to six weeks as he needs surgery to repair his fractured right fibula at the ankle. He is expected to have surgery today. Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said that Couture skate got caught in a rut in the corner during a drill. Tomas Hertl will take his slot as their second line center.
  • Andy Strickland: Blues Paul Stastny left in the third period after taking a shot off the skate.
  • Anaheim Ducks: Ducks defenseman Simon Despres left last night with an upper-body injury.
  • Joe Smith: Lightning’s Victor Hedman is feeling better, but is doubtful for today.
  • Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: Bruins Brad Marchand has been out with a concussion practice yesterday and could return against the Coyotes.

    “It was good to get out there and have a full practice with the guys. I guess we’ll see how it goes tomorrow,” said Marchand. “I have to be cleared and I’m still trying to figure that out. We’re just taking that step by step. Now it’s just day-to-day.”

    Marchand said he’s had a “couple” concussions before, but isn’t sure how many.

  • Gregg Krupa: Red Wings Johan Franzen’s stint on the IR will likely become a stint on the LTIR.
  • Detroit Red Wings: Both Danny DeKeyser and Darren Helm are possibilities today according to coach Blashill.
  • Tom Gulitti: Devils Patrik Elias has been skating on his own, but there is no timetable for him to start practicing with the team.
  • Tim Panaccio: Flyers R.J. Umberger wore a no-contact jersey at practice yesterday.

Roster notes …

  • Helene St. James: With the expected return of Danny DeKeyser, the Red Wings have assigned Alexey Marchenko to the AHL.
  • Bryan Burns: The Lightning have recalled defenseman Slater Koekkoek.
  • Scott Powers: The Blackhawks have recalled Vinnie Hinostroza and reassigned Kyle Baun.
  • Mike Heika: After being a healthy scratch, Valeri Nichushkin will get back into the lineup.
  • Mike Morreale: The Sharks have recalled Nikolay Goldobin from the AHL.
