Some morning NHL news and notes for Thursday June 23rd.
- Travis Zajac gets a 4 year, $15.55 million contract from the Devils and avoids salary arbitration. $2.75 million in 2009-10, $3.5 million in 2010-11, $4.5 million in 2011-12 and $4.8 million 2012-13. Not a bad deal for the 24 year old.
- Marty Biron gets a 1 year, $1.4 million deal from the Islanders. In shocking developements, Rick Dipietro still has knee problems and may not be ready for the beginning of the season. Dipietro will begin skating in August. Biron could become trade bait late on in the season if Dipietro is able to remain healthy.
- The Maple Leafs re-signed minor leaguers, Darryl Boyce (2 years) and Alex Foster (1 year). If you’re not a Leaf fan or from their hometown, you’ve probably never head of these guys. Last years Leaf backup, Martin Gerber, has signed a 1 year deal with a club in the KHL. The signing of ‘The Monster’, Jonas Gustavsson, meant the Leafs didn’t plan on bringing Gerber back.
- The Vancouver Canucks have added forwards Tanner Glass and Guillaume Desbiens, and Dman Mike Funk.
