Morning Rumors III: Ryan Callahan Edition – Demands Lowered, Rangers Holding Pat
  • Pierre LeBrun: Ryan Callahan’s last offer was just south of $6.5 million for six years. It is still too high for the Rangers.
  • Katie Strang: Confirms that Callahan has moved off of his seven year request. They are still apart on money.
  • Bob McKenzie: Looking like the Rangers are holding firm on $6 million per season.
  • Bob McKenzie: “Callahan demands to NYR have decreased from 7 x $7M+ he was asking. Now open to 6 years at less than $7M per, maybe in $6.5-6.75M range?” … “In any case, Callahan still looking for more than what NYR offered — 6 years at $6M per. So gap has shrunk some but still exists.” … “Is gap enough for NYR to trade captain by Wed? Or enough for captain to want to go elsewhere? Or could 6 x $6.25M make both unhappily happy?”
  • Katie Strang of ESPN: The Rangers have played their final game leading up to trade deadline. Was it Ryan Callahan’s last in a Rangers uniform?

“No, I didn’t look at it like that. This is where I want to be. I’m just focused on doing what I can for the team.”

Callahan’s demands have come down a bit, but GM Glen Sather could still move him if they don’t come to terms.

After all the speculation, Callahan is looking to put everything behind soon.

“Yeah, definitely,” Callahan said. “It’s been on my mind — there’s no secret there — so it’ll be nice to get it done with and move past it.”

“Just wait and see, I guess,” Callahan said. “Obviously my heart’s still here and I want to be here, so we’ll see what happens.”
