Morning Rumors: Senators, Tootoo, Panthers and Selanne
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators are carrying eight defenseman and could look at making a trade.

    “There are about eight-to-10 teams looking for defencemen because they’re hard to come by. A lot of teams could use help in that area,” a league executive told the Sun Thursday.

  • Darren Dreger: The Red Wings tried to trade Jordin Tootoo but couldn’t find a fit. Tootoo carries a $1.9 million this year and next, may be too much for other teams.
  • Matt Kalman: Probably twice as many scouts at the Panthers game compared to recent games.
  • Harvey Fialkov: The Panthers had a players only meeting with lots of yelling. GM Dale Talon is fuming and promises to fix things. “Everyone will be evaluated.” including coach Dineen.
  • Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports: Ducks Teemu Selanne said that this will be his last NHL season, but will it be his last season playing hockey?

    SovSport’s Pavel Lysenkov reports that a renowned Finnish hockey statistician Tomas Rachunas said, “We estimate that the probability of Teemu Selanne playing for Jokerit in the KHL at 20-30 percent.”

    Selanne came from the Jokerit system and has good relationship with Jari Kurri, who will be the team’s general manager.
