New Oilers arena on the right track … Gretzky talked with Kings … Schenn forfeits almost $5,000 for suspension
  • Renaud Lavoie via twitter: Two sources are saying the financing for a new arena in Edmonton is on the right track. Dan Tencer via twitter: The Katz Group will contribute $278 million. The “other government” will put in $114 million, with $14 million for a community rink. The $100 million from the Province has yet to be secured, and need a promise for the money August. David Staples via twitter: The Oilers would play at the Rexall Place until 2015-16. If approved by council, arena will open in 2016. Sean Gentille via twitter: Katz: “(We) are confident we will all look back on the end result with pride and satisfaction at what we have achieved.” David  Staples via twitter: “The province will be there with $100 million, Mandel says, to get this project done. “I’m absolutely confident.”
  • Elliotte Friedman via twitter: Wayne Gretzky in a HNIC radio interview said that the Kings are on the only NHL team that has contacted him. Said he doesn’t think that he’s close to returning to the NHL in any capacity. Gretzky did add that relocation wouldn’t be a problem if he had to. Lance Hornby via twitter: Gretzky said that he has talked to the Kings about a job, but nothing is serious. He loves Canada but is happy in California for now.
