Bob McKenzie: Tom Wilson‘s in-person hearing with the NHL department of player safety started at 10:00 AM today in New York.

Oilers sign two players who were on PTOs

Edmonton Oilers: The Edmonton Oilers have signed PTO camp invites Jason Garrison and Alex Chiasson to one-year deals.

Stempniak sticking around Boston for now

Jimmy Murphy: Forward Lee Stempniak (was on a PTO) said that he won’t be traveling with the Boston Bruins on their road trip but he’ll be remaining in Boston and with the team. Signing with the Bruins is his preference, but he’s talking to a few other teams. Heading to Europe isn’t an option.

Waiver claims from yesterday

Darren Haynes: The Carolina Hurricanes claimed goaltender Curtis McElhinney off waivers from the Maple Leafs. The Philadelphia Flyers claimed Calvin Pickard off waivers from the Maple Leafs.

Tom Gulitti: The Washington Capitals claimed Dmitrij Jaskin off waivers from the St. Louis Blues.

Elliotte Friedman: The Buffalo Sabres claimed Remi Elie off waivers from the Dallas Stars.

Olofsson gets medical clearance then hits waivers

Michael Russo: Minnesota Wild defenseman Gustav Olofsson received medical clearance yesterday and then was put on waivers. He is on their roster submission.

Michael Russo: Olofsson practiced with the team yesterday and has one of eight defenseman. Nate Prosser won the seventh defenseman spot.

Seattle expansion

Pierre LeBrun: Recapping the Seattle expansion process: “still some due diligence to be done on Seattle’s part but all is pointing to a full Board of Governors vote on Seattle expansion come Dec. 3-4. Bettman says launch of team in fall of 2020 would be ideal but depends on some factors.”

Flames name two alternate captains

Pat Steinberg: The Calgary Flames named Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk alternate captains. Sean Monahan was already an alternate, with Mark Giordano as captain.

Zetterberg to drop puck on Thursday

Ansar Khan: The Detroit Red Wings have announced that Henrik Zetterberg will drop the puck for their season opener on Thursday.
