Wilson expected to appeal his suspension

John Shannon: The NHLPA is reviewing Tom Wilson’s 20 game suspension decision and will be speaking about it with Wilson.

Tom Gulitti: Washington Capitals coach Todd Reirden said that he expects that Wilson will be appealing the suspension and wouldn’t comment further on it.

Canadiens add a defenseman

Cap Friendly: The Minnesota Wild have traded defenseman Gustav Olofsson to the Montreal Canadiens for forward William Bitten. Olofsson had cleared waivers yesterday is eligible to be immediately assigned to the AHL.

Michael Russo: The Canadiens took all of Olofsson’s contract – $725,000 one-way cap hit. Bitten carries a $910,000 NHL cap hit and gets $70,000 in the minors.

Canadiens scratched Plekanec

Kevin Gibson: Tomas Plekanec was scratched for the season opener in Toronto last night. Plekanec is at 998 career games and the Canadiens open up with their first two on the road, then their next four at home.

Pickard dealing with visa issues

Sam Carchidi: There is a chance that Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Calvin Pickard won’t have his visa in time for Thursday’s season opener according to GM Ron Hextall.

Bobrovsky won’t start the Blue Jackets season opener

Aaron Portzline: Columbus Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said that Joonas Korpisalo will start for the season opener Thursday. Friday is the Blue Jackets home opener

Nylander losing $20,000 to $45,000 a day
