Sean Shapiro of The Athletic: The Dallas Stars may have won 2-0 on Thursday but team owner Tom Gaglardi wasn’t happy with a couple Stars players according to Stars CEO Jim Lites:

“He’s pissed,” Lites said on Friday afternoon. “And you know what it’s about.”

“They are fucking horse-shit, I don’t know how else to put it,” Lites said. “The team was ok. But (Tyler) Seguin and (Jamie) Benn were terrible.”

Lites continues on about how they haven’t been good enough this season, how they aren’t accountable on the ice, how they get outplayed in every game they play, and how they need to be a lot better.

“He’s hitting posts, ‘wah-wah.” That’s what I say about hitting posts,” Lites said. “Get a little bit closer to the action, actually go to the spot where you score goals. He doesn’t do that, he never does that anymore. He used to be a pest to play against, people hated playing against Tyler Seguin, they don’t anymore.

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1200 and was asked about Dallas Stars CEO Jim Lites’ comments towards Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin in The Athletic.

McKenzie said that he’s never seen anything like it before dating back to 1982. He adds that it’s not like Lites’ was asked a question about Benn and/or Seguin directly, he sought out The Athletic.

“It’ll be curious to see do they take it personally, do they take it professionally, does it motivate them, or what’s going to be the response here.

“Obviously Jim Lites and Tom Gaglardi, knowing the kind of attention that this would draw, are willing to bet that it’s going to be positives that come out of it, but that remains to be seen.”
