Elliotte Friedman: It’s sounding like Steve Yzerman will be stepping down as the GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning with Julian BriseBois taking over as their general manager.

Joe Smith: Yzerman let players know in a meeting today that he’ll be leaving the GM post but will be staying with the team as an advisor.

Joe Smith: Owner Jeff Vinik, Yzerman, and BriseBois will hold a press conference at 4:00 PM.

Thoughts from the media

James Mirtle: “BriseBois has long been target for GM roles around league. Lightning likely would have lost him in near future.”

Travis Yost: “If you had a short list of sharpest guys not in GM role, BriseBois probably at the top. I wonder if this is a win for Tampa Bay, even with how successful Y was.”

James Mirtle: “There have also been Yzerman to Detroit rumours forever. Again, entirely speculation. And Ken Holland has a two-year extension with the Red Wings.”

Craig Custance: “For those speculating about Detroit, here’s what we know: – Holland signed 2-year extension with the Red Wings in April – per , Yzerman has one year left on his deal w/TB – There’s an internal appetite to sort out future roles for current Detroit management group”
