On the World Cup of Hockey …

Aaron Ward: Marian Hossa report is that his injury isn’t serious and has told the team he will be fine.

Craig Custance: Marian Hossa joined Team Europe on their flight to Montreal last night.

Joe McDonald: Team Sweden forward Marcus Kruger has an upper-body injury and won’t play on Saturday.

Dan Rosen: Kruger missed the final 7:39 of regulation and wasn’t on the ice during overtime.

Joe McDonald: Henrik Lundqvist will get the start for Sweden tomorrow against Finland.

Tom Gulitti: Word is that Vladimir Sobotka didn’t fracture his clavicle.

On PTOs …

Chris Johnston: Justin Fontaine signed a PTO with the Florida Panthers. He’s been with the Minnesota Wild the past three years.

James Mirtle: Eric Nystrom and Yan Stastny received PTOs from the St. Louis Blues. Zach Boychuk got a PTO from the Arizona Coyotes.

Harvey Fialkov: Adam Pardy signed a PTO with the Florida Panthers. After the trade of Erik Gudbranson, Pardy could bring the Panthers blueline some toughness.

On Paul Gaustad …

Adam Vingan: Paul Gaustad retired from the NHL yesterday.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Frank Seravalli: The Canucks hired Manny Malhotra as their player development coach.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Lightning forward Ryan Callahan had hip surgery at the end of June. He’s targeting mid-November to get back into the Lightning lineup. On Tuesday he skated for about 30 minutes, his first time back on skates since the torn labrum surgery.

“The biggest thing is showing the progression, it’s getting there, getting better,” Callahan said Wednesday at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon. “It’s another step towards trying to get back to where I want it to be.

“It’s a pretty big step to go out there and feels as good as it did when I’m out there.”
