NHL Rumors: Canadiens – Subban, Avs, Canucks and Oilers
Rumors continue to swirl around Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Brian Wilde: Word is the Canadiens like Matthew Tkachuk over Pierre-Luc Dubois.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Bob McKenzie: the Avalanche had previous talks with the Canadiens about P.K. Subban. The Avs don’t count themselves in the picture now.

On the Montreal Canadiens and P.K. Subban …

Chirs Nichols: Darren Dreger said that Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin tried to cool things down with regards to Subban rumors, but  “Reality is he is still listening to all of the interest in P.K. Subban.”

Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1040 on P.K. Subban.

“Pierre LeBrun reported yesterday that the Canadiens were getting more phone calls on P.K. Subban. And I do kind of chuckle a little bit at how we’re kind of characterizing this. The Canadiens obviously don’t want it out there, ‘We’re trying to dump P.K. Subban.’ And in fairness to them, they’re not trying to dump P.K. Subban.

“But, I mean, they’re not playing tiddlywinks on these calls either. These are serious calls, and they’re entertaining offers on P.K. Subban.”

McKenzie’s opinion on the situation.

“I believe – and this is an opinion, this is not based on fact – I believe that under the right circumstances, the Montreal Canadiens are prepared to trade P.K. Subban. Under the right circumstances. I don’t know if they’re going to get those right circumstances, to be honest. That’s a real hard deal to do. But that’s what the talks are aimed at happening. And those calls are legitimate. Teams are calling up, and I think they’re horse-trading on what they would give the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for P.K. Subban.”

McKenzie says the Canucks, Oilers and others have called the Canadiens. It would be hard for the Canucks to make the deal compared to the Oilers.

McKenzie on how many teams could afford Subban’s contract and the cost to acquire him.

”And that’s why teams, they will call, and they probably have legitimate interest, but they’ve got to be careful too. When those numbers are as high as they are, that affects the acquisition price. And then when Montreal starts looking at the acquisition price, they’re like, ‘Nah.’

“But, having said, that, there’s obviously reasons, whatever they are, why they would entertain this.”
