Hurricanes GM Don Waddell on Jeff Skinner and Noah Hanifin

Hockey Central on Sportsnet talks to Carolina Hurricanes General Manager, Don Waddell. He mentions how Skinner and Hanifin are both high-end assets. Moving those assets can prove to be difficult. An asset would have to help sooner rather than later.

“One team called me and asked if we would ever consider trading Hanifin and what would it take.”

“Then when we said we’ll see, that team got it out to the media and my phone started ringing off the hook.”

That is all it takes. Phones ring off the hook when anything gets out into the media. As for Skinner, 30 goal scorers are also rare in this league. For a team like Carolina who had trouble scoring goals, it seems counterproductive to consider a trade. Yet, here we are. Skinner and Hanifin expect to fetch a good return if they are dealt.
