Ben Bishop signs six year deal with the Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars have signed goaltender Ben Bishop to a six-year contract worth $29.5 million. That is a salary cap hit of $4.917 million.

Pierre LeBrun: Contract breakdown: $7 M, $6.5 M, $5.5 M, $3.5 M, $3.5 M, $3.5 M. Biship has a no-movement clause for the entire six years and a modified no-trade clause for the final three years.

“I’m happy with the team, I’m excited about what we can do, and I wanted to get it done,” said Bishop, whose free agent rights were acquired from Los Angeles on Tuesday. “I think this is a good fit and I’m ready to go right now.”

The Stars will try to trade Antti Niemi. If they can’t trade Niemi, they will likely buy him out. If they buy Niemi out, they could have a combine goalie cap hit of $12.3 million.
