NHL Rumors: Hurricanes, Sharks, Kings and Jets
Jacob Trouba against the Carolina Hurricanes

On the Carolina Hurricanes …

  • Chip Alexander: “Asked Eric Staal for umpteenth time about possible trades, contract talks, etc. Nothing new to report, he said for umpteenth time.”

On the San Jose Sharks …

  • Paul Gackle of the San Jose Mercury News: The backup goalie position has been shaky for the Sharks this season. Alex Stalock has a 2.94 GAA and .884 save percentage in 13 games this season. The Sharks will play 16 games in 29 days, so they’ll need to rest Martin Jones several times. The Sharks could look to trade for a backup before the trade deadline.

On the LA Kings …

  • Dennis Bernstein: (answering question about the Kings claiming Rob Scuderi off waivers) Scuderi is 37-years old and has one more year at a $2.25 million cap hit. He hasn’t been good enough to remain with the Penguins and Blackhawks. Think that there are better options available to the Kings.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

  • Tim Campbell of the WInnipeg Free Press: Contract talks between the Jets and Jacob Trouba were put on hold until after the season. After Dustin Byfuglien signed his five-year contract extension, Trouba’s name has hit the rumor mill as some wonder if the Jets would be able to afford him on a long-term deal. Trouba realizes he can’t control the talk and isn’t too worried about it.

“It means nothing, really,” Trouba said. “I don’t really pay attention too much. It’s definitely something new for me. I haven’t really been around that. But it’s one of those things you can’t really control, so why worry about it?

“That’s how I kind of look at it. I just go out and play. That’s out of my control and I don’t really think too much about it or even spend too much time pondering it.”

Trouba hasn’t spoken to his agent about the rumors.

“Not really,” Trouba said. “You’re here to play. I want to play (in Winnipeg). I’m here through the end of this year, and that’s what I’m focused on. It’s nothing to worry about right now for me.”
