On Marian Hossa …

Scott Powers of The Athletic: Marian Hossa left last night’s Team Europe-Team North America game after blocking a shot in the second period. Source saying he has a bruised foot, but will continue to play. Source added that he could miss their remaining exhibition games a precaution, but be ready for the start of the tournament.

On Patrick Roy …

Craig Custance: Patrick Roy said that a difference in philosophy in Colorado wasn’t just about their player selection. He said that it extended to other people he wanted to be in the organization.

Michael Traikos: Roy on quitting on the Avalanche: “I like to use the word resign. Obvioulsy we had a different philosophy & sometimes it’s better that way”

Craig Custance: Roy added that if any team is interested in talking to him, they have to go through the Avalanche as he has a year left on his deal.

Mark Spector: Roy said he “resigned,” but has a year left on his contract with the Avalanche. Spector notes that, that seems generous of the Avalanche.

Craig Custance: Roy doesn’t feel the timing of his resignation hurt that the Avalanche. He took his time as he wanted to make sure it was the right call.

Michael Traikos: Roy on Alexander Radulov: “Would I love to see Radulov play for the Avalanche? Yes, because I think he’s is a special player.”

John Lu: Roy denies that the Avalanche not aggressively going after Radulov was a deciding factor of him resigning.

On the trade market and Kris Russell …

Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Pierre LeBrun on TSN 1040 on how some teams don’t have a lot of salary cap room, and are making calls to try and create some extra room.

“Just look at the fact that Kris Russell is still out there on the market as a UFA. Pretty good player. But I think they’re waiting for a few teams that have interest in him to trade cap space, right.

“And a lot of teams are hamstrung. And I know that a lot of the teams that are making calls right now is about that – ‘Can I unload some cap space.’ Well, not a lot of teams want cap space.”

LeBrun doesn’t think the trade market is heated at the moment, and teams may need to see how the start of the season shakes out.
