NHL Rumors: Canadiens – Subban and Scouting MON-PHI
P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens

On the Montreal Canadiens …

  • Darren Dreger of TSN: The Canadiens aren’t going to trade P.K. Subban. He’s not being shopped and they aren’t calling around to see if there is a trade market for him. If teams are calling the Canadiens about Subban, GM Marc Bergevin isn’t listening. In a few months or years things could change, but Subban’s immediate future will be with the Canadiens.
  • Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: The Canadiens are going to be sellers, but they don’t have a lot to offer. They are not going to trade Subban. If the Canadiens don’t end up with a top-five pick, it might make sense to trade their first round pick for some offensive help.
  • Eric Engels: Me: “Are you shopping P.K. Subban?”, Member of #habs executive: “Ha. Absolutely not.”
  • TSN Radio Vancouver: Pierre McGuire said that it would be “colossal mistake” if the Canadiens traded Subban.
  • Bill Beacon of the Globe and Mail: Michel Therrien on calling out out P.K. Subban on Wednesday.

“This is our market,” Therrien said. “We didn’t like the play but it could have been any player who made that play at that time of the game, in that situation, and we would have mentioned it.

“But because it was P.K., it’s 100 times bigger.”

Captain Max Pacioretty on Subban and if there may be dissension within the team

“I support P.K. 100 per cent,” he said. “Everyone in this room supports all the players and the coaches.

“To try to say there’s a rift because of this is unfair and untrue. P.K. is one of the best defencemen in the league and he has been for years. Mike (Therrien) has shown that he’s an unbelievable coach with the success he’s had. There are no hard feelings between anyone.”

  • Shawn Simpson: “Easy for NHL teams to get Subban’s name out. Question is reaction. Does Bergevin back the player, like he backed Therrien? Or move him?”

Scouting the Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers game …

  • Stu Cowan: Scouts listed for the Canadiens – Flyers: Blackhawks (2), Blues (2), Capitals (2), Hurricanes, Lightning, Penguins, Rangers, Panthers and Stars.
