On Travis Hamonic and Mikkel Boedker …
- Frank Seravalli of TSN: It’s a long shot that the Islanders will trade Travis Hamonic before the deadline. Hamonic’s agent, Kevin Epp, said yesterday that trade likely wouldn’t happen until the offseason.
“I think it’s more of a trade that happens draft time, the offseason,” Epp told TSN 1040 Radio in Vancouver. “He’s playing such good hockey and the Islanders are in a playoff position. I’m not sure he’ll get moved unless there’s a deal that makes sense for both sides, which hasn’t happened so far. So nothing leads me to believe he’ll be moved.”
Epp is also the agent for Mikkel Boedker.
“Yup, he’s in a situation where it seems (Arizona) will be sellers,” Epp said. “We haven’t signed a contract extension at all, so I think he’ll get moved to a contending team, get a chance to play in the postseason, and see what he can do.”
On the Arizona Coyotes …
- Craig Custance: The Coyotes have the cap space and budget to retain part of Boedker’s salary in the right deal. Would make him an option for teams like the Blues who don’t have the salary cap space.
On the Carolina Hurricanes …
- Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer: Eric Staal said yesterday he hasn’t been asked to waive his no-trade clause.
“We’ll see what happens,” Staal said. “For me, personally, there’s been talk in certain areas. Ultimately, we’ll see what management wants to do and what they see is best for this organization and this team, and we’ll go from there.
“Obviously it depends on the situation and where it would be. But I think we’ve got a pretty good relationship where we can talk it out and figure it out. I’m not going to be trying to hold anything back, but it’s got to be the right situation for myself, as well.”
Among the teams that might be interested are the Rangers, Panthers and Predators.
