NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, and the Florida Panthers
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler wouldn't waive his no-trade clause.
On the Vancouver Canucks deadline

TSN Radio Vancouver: Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning: “The message to our fans is to continue to be patient. We’re going to do things the right way. We’re going to draft and develop and we’re going to develop this thing piece-by-piece so we can be competitive for a long time.”

Dan Murphy: GM Benning said that Jonathan Dahlen’s agent had asked for a trade as Dahlen was unhappy that he wasn’t moving up the organization quick enough. The Canucks felt he hadn’t worked hard enough to get a shot.

Dan Murphy: Benning said that Alexander Edler was not willing to waive his no-trade clause. The sides are still working on getting an extension done.

On the Arizona Coyotes deadline

Dave Vest: Arizona Coyotes GM John Chayka on the NHL trade deadline: “There wasn’t something that made sense … There weren’t any moves that we felt were significant upgrades assuming that there was some sort of subtraction involved with that.”

On the Florida Panthers deadline

George Richards of The Athletic: Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon confirmed that he made a substantial offer to the Ottawa Senators for Mark Stone.

“We made a good offer,” Tallon lamented, “just not good enough I guess.”

Tallon moved a few pending free agents for draft picks yesterday.

“We had a good month, accumulated some picks and some assets and freed up some money for free agency in the summer. We did not disrupt the core of our team,” said Tallon, who compared deadline day to a painful visit to the dentist.

“Our whole organization really worked together and, subtly, we did some really good things.”

Tallon said they’d like to re-sign pending free agents Troy Brouwer and Riley Sheahan and added if they hadn’t, they would have moved them.

The Panthers will have some salary cap space for next year and plan to have an aggressive offseason.

“We are going to be very aggressive after the season. We have lots of (cap) room and a lot of picks,” Tallon said. “We will turn this into a positive thing.”
