NHL to look at Plan B for Coyotes … Hurricanes need winger for Staal … Is Dubnyk a #1? DeKeyser a 50-50 proposition
  • Darren Dreger via twitter: Plan B for the Phoenix Coyotes will begin next week unless progress happens this week. Seattle, Quebec City, Las Vegas and Kansas City are in the mix. 2 or 3 groups are still interested in buying the Coyotes, but they have to give Plan B consideration. David Pagnotta via twitter: Kansas City and Seattle are serious options for the league to consider.
  • Darren Dreger via twitter: The Hurricanes have the core players, but they need a star winger to play with Staal. They’d also consider a top defenseman. Ownership is on board for the right player.
  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Devan Dubnyk hopes he’s done enough to show the Oilers management that he can be a number 1 goalie in the NHL. Matheson wonders if the Oilers are comfortable enough with Dubnyk being the main guy, or do they need to look at signing UFA Josh Harding or trading for Jonathan Bernier. If they bring in someone else, they could look at moving Nikolai Khabibulin ($3.75 million). They can’t buy him out as he signed his deal after he was 35.
  • Bob McKenzie via twitter: Top college free agent defenseman Danny DeKeyser of Western Michigan is not better than a 50-50 proposition to leave school, or stay for his Junior season. Teammate Matt Tennyson is also in demand.
