On the Arizona Coyotes and Dallas Stars …

Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: The Arizona Coyotes acquired the rights to Alex Goligoski from the Dallas Stars for a 2016 5th round pick. The Coyotes have exclusive rights to talk with Goligoski until June 25th, then he’s open to talk with any team.

“He was the first domino to fall in what we hope are a series of coordinated moves to help our team,” Chayka said, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to sign Goligoski before he becomes a free agent on July 1. “In our position, we thought it was worth a fifth-round pick to have that window. It’s more about the confidence in what we have to sell here with a team that is young and poised to break out.”

Goligoski shoots left, and if signed, would likely play on the second pairing behind Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

The Coyotes could be looking to add a right-handed defenseman, with sources saying they could look to trade for Kevin Shattenkirk, Jacob Trouba or Adam Larsson.

Goligoski is expected to meet with the Coyotes next week.

Josh Rimer: Goligoski said that he’s open to anything. He wants to be on a team where he’s a good fit and one that’s going in the right direct. He will visit the Coyotes on Monday/Tuesday and go from there.

Pierre LeBrun: The Coyotes plan to fly Goligoski in next week and try to sell him on the team and the market.

Mark Stepneski: Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill on Alex Goligoski after the trade to Arizona.

“We negotiated with him. We made an offer and in the end we just couldn’t agree on terms, which was fine. Negotiations were very well taken on both sides. In the end, Alex wanted to see what was out there. When I was talking to teams, Arizona showed a lot of interest. So, I called Alex and Said, ‘Do you want to go and talk to another team that showed interest in you?’ And he thought that might be a good idea, give him another feel for the market. So, we ended up making the deal with Arizona.”

“He’s earned this right. He’s earned this right to become a UFA. I told him I fully understand that. For him and his family, he needs to see what is the right fit monetarily-wise and team-wise. If there is something that fits, good for him. He as a good player for us.”
