Bob McKenzie via twitter: The Maple Leafs received a trade offer, it was a 2 for 2 deal involving bottom 6 forwards, with one of the players they would move being a Toronto Marlie. McKenzie also added the deal wasn’t ‘laughable’, realistic goal is to upgrade bottom 6 because the options aren’t there to upgrade the top 6.
Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: The Philadelphia Flyers are deep at center with Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Daniel Briere, and have winger Claude Giroux who was a center. If things don’t improve with the Flyers, they may look at trading Carter, who’ll be a RFA at season end. They could use a top end winger.
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: It was brought up yesterday that the Bruins are interested in Keith Yandle, and could be interested in prospects Mikkel Boedker and Viktor Tikhonov. The Bruins need to move out salary, and the Coyotes have around $9 million in cap space. The names at the top of Boston trade options are Blake Wheeler and Michael Ryder, with Matt Hunwick and Mark Stuart also as possibilities. It wouldn’t surprise Haggerty if the 1st round pick they acquired from the Maple Leafs is also in play. Tim Thomas’s solid start may increase his trade value.
Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic: “Another day, a couple more mindless, idiotic Twitter rumors.” Gintonio says that Keith Yandle is not going anywhere. “Probably 90 percent of the teams in the NHL are interested in Yandle; just as the Coyotes and 29 other teams are “interested” in Drew Doughty or Duncan Keith or Mike Green.”
David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News: San Jose Sharks coach, Todd McLellan has no plan on how he’ll be using his goalie, Antti Niemi and Antero Niittymaki. Niitymaki may have the leg up. “Right now, it’s who we feel comfortable with on that given day,” McLellan said Tuesday. “Nitty, let’s face facts, has been better than Antti has, so we lean that way a little right now.”
