Oilers sign Smid to 4-year contract extension

The Edmonton Oilers and defenseman Ladislav Smid have agreed to a 4 year, $14 million contract extension this morning. The deal carries a $3.5 million salary cap hit.

The 6′ 3″, 225 pounder was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 2004, 9th overall.

The Oilers acquired Smid in 2006 along with Joffrey Lupul and draft picks for Chris Pronger.
