Only on the NHL terms … No meetings schedualed … Krejci says Bettman treats them like animals … Kostitsyn hopes season is cancelled
  • TSN: Bill Daly sent an email to The Canadian Press:

“(I’m) not sure there is any reason to meet if there is nothing new to say,” deputy commissioner Bill Daly told The Canadian Press in an email. “Our position was communicated to the union pretty clearly last Tuesday and then again on Thursday.

“If they have a desire to meet with regard to the proposal we have on the table, they know how to reach us.”

Both sides did talk over the phone on the weekend, and are expect to meet in New York sometime this week.

“They say they want a deal but then they say they only want to meet if it is on their terms,” said Steve Fehr, the NHLPA’s special counsel. “Strange. That is not the way to reach an agreement. Bargaining is give and take — not just take.”

  • Andy Strickland via twitter: The NHL says there are no plans to meet this week. There are some players who would like to meet before Thursday’s “deadline” in an attempt to get in an 82 game season. “Truth is unless #NHL shows a willingness to seriously negotiate, there won’t be a deal until players tell Donald Fehr to get a deal done.”
  • Nick Kypreos via twitter: If players are looking to go to New York in an effort spark up talks, it is news to Fehr. The NHL and NHLPA remain in contact but there are no meetings scheduled.
  • Chip Alexander via twitter: CBA stalemate likely to continue as Alexander can’t see Don Fehr agreeing to any deal that doesn’t honor the players contracts and have some concessions for them.
  • Nick Cotsonika via twitter: “If owners are willing to discuss “make whole” provision, why don’t they have something new to say? Why don’t they have a reason to meet? Understand owners don’t want to negotiate against themselves again. But do they want to make a deal by their deadline?” James Mirtle via twitter: (responding to Cotsonika) Mirtle senses the players hate the provision and don’t want to discuss it with the NHL.
  • James Mirtle via twitter: David Krejci on Gary Bettman: “It is unfortunate that the NHL have such a guy. It’s a shame for the entire hockey world. Treats us like animals.”
  • The Globe and Mail: Predators Sergei Kostitsyn is playing with Avangard Omsk during the lockout, and hopes the NHL season is cancelled.

“Let’s put it this way – it would be better (for the players) if the lockout continues,” Kostitsyn was quoted as saying by Russian daily Sport-Express on Monday.

“Players want a definite answer. If the NHL season is lost – let it be that way. I would then play in Russia for the whole season.”

Kostitsyn also added he hate life in North America and that Columbus was “the gloomiest” city in the U.S.
