NHL Rumors: Senators, Oilers and Maple Leafs
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers and Cody Ceci of the Ottawa Senators
On the Ottawa Senators …

Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: Contract talks between the Ottawa Senators and RFA Cody Ceci‘s camp have been quiet for awhile.

The salary arbitration date for the Senators and Mike Hoffman is set for August 4th, but a new deal could be in place before then. Talks between the two sides have been “hush-hush,” but Hoffman’s agent said they expect talks to pick up this week. There is pressure on the Senators to get a long-term deal done.

If they get to arbitration, Hoffman will get a one-year deal and could become a UFA after next season.

On the Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers …

David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Eklund brought up the rumor of a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for Cody Ceci trade on Friday. TSN 1200 play-by-play man A.J. Jakubec was on “Oilers Now” on 630 CHED yesterday talking about Ceci.

“When it comes to Cody Ceci we’ll see what happens in terms of contract talks,” Jakubec said. “But I think they are a lot more comfortable making that type of move if they get a real quality piece in return. Not that I think they’re going to just seek that type of move but if they get a Nugent-Hopkins or a Draisaitl back they’re probably a lot more comfortable now making that move now that they’ve got Dion Phaneuf to compliment Marc Methot and Erik Karlsson than they would have been before acquiring him.”

Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer doesn’t think there is anything to this rumor and added: “I’m telling you right now I’d be stunned if Nugent-Hopkins went.”

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Kristen Shilton of TSN: After acquiring Frederik Andersen from the Ducks and trading backup Jonathan Bernier eventually to the Ducks, the Maple Leafs are in the market for a veteran backup according to GM Lou Lamoriello. Options for the Leafs could include free agents Jhonas Enroth and Karri Ramo, and from the trade market Keith Kinkaid (NJ), Reto Berra (FLA) and Thomas Greiss (NYI).
