Quick Hits and Injuries: Sakic the GM and Players Hurting Already
  • Chad Graff: Ilya Bryzgalov is on a PTO with the Wild and said yesterday that he hasn’t skated in four months.
  • Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Avalanche’s VP of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic is now officially the GM as well. Greg Sherman is now their assistant GM and alternate governor.
  • Lou Korac: The Blues invited Ryan Whitney to camp on a PTO.
  • Philadelphia Flyers: Flyers Claude Giroux will be out two weeks with a lower-body injury. Tim Panaccio: Sources saying that Giroux was tested for three related injuries: groin/abductor muscle, abdominal strain and hip flexor.
  • Lisa Dillman: Kings Jonathan Quick on his wrist: “Obviously, it’s not 100 percent yet. We’re right on track with where we thought it’d be at this point. I was a little bit surprised when they said I needed surgery. I didn’t think it was that bad.”
  • Jon Rosen: Kings Drew Doughty misses the start of training camp due to an upper-body injury he suffered this summer.
  • Hockey Central: Ducks Kyle Palmieri is out two weeks with an ankle sprain.
  • Edmonton Oilers:  Oilers coach Dallas Eakins on Jeff Petry who left practice early after taking a big hit: “He tweaked his shoulder. We don’t think it’s anything huge. He’ll be day-to-day.”
  • Aaron Portzline: Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray (knee) didn’t skate yesterday but it’s not serious. Murray had his knee scoped twice.
  • Roger Millions: Flames Mikael Backlund is out at least two weeks with an abdominal injury.
