Quick hits on Alfredsson, 10+ year deals and the Islanders
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Though it’s believed that Daniel Alfredsson will return next year, he wants to make sure he’s fully committed to the idea.

“We don’t know when Daniel and his family are going to come to a final decision. They are thinking it through and we’ll let everybody know,” Alfredsson’s agent J.P. Barry of CAA Sports said Monday.

Don’t be surprised if they sign him to a contract extension with a nice signing bonus to make up for $1 million salary he has this year.

  • Brian Hedger via twitter: “I know the FA market demands it, but I’d be real careful doling out these 10-plus year contracts to guys who are already 27.” … “This is exactly why drafting well, stockpiling young talent and developing it into good to great NHL players is really you’re best shot” … “Otherwise, in a capped world, you eventually find yourself paying a 30-something guy not worth it $8 million a season w/untradeable contract”
  • BD Gallof via twitter: Expect no more UFA moves by the Islanders, and no further changes perhaps until the new CBA is in place. Highly likely that the team you see now is what you’ll see in October.
