Roster Notes: Leafs, Penguins, Wild, Avalanche, Flames, Jets, Ducks and Capitals
  • Dave Feschuk: Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis said that Morgan Rielly looks “ready to take a job.” Nonis added that coach Randy Carlyle needs to be comfortable with playing Rielly 12 to 15 minutes a night, “that’s something we feel is going to happen.”
  • Chris Nichols: Jussi Jokinen and Beau Bennett battle to be Evgeni Malkin and James Neal’s left winger. Jokinen and Bennett are both on the second power play unit.
  • Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: The Wild have two more cuts to make. David Steckel is likely one of them. Russo thinks Matt Dumba will make the team. Charlie Coyle is lock as their No. 2 center. Last cut could be down to Mikael Granlund, Jason Zucker, Nino Niederreiter and Justin Fontaine.
  • Adrian Dater: Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said that Marc-Andre Cliche is a center but could play on the right side. Will be the teams 13th forward. John Mitchell is a fourth line center, but Dater can see Cliche playing ahead of Bordeleau at times.
  • Wes Gilbertson: Flames coach Bob Hartley on Sean Monahan: “After every game, if you weigh in maybe the rookie mistakes that he make versus the great plays that maybe an 18-year-old kid shouldn’t make in this league, it’s pretty impressive.”
  • Aaron Vickers: The Flames reassigned to Abbotsford:  Billins, Ramage, Wotherspoon and forwards Begin, Granlund and Jooris. L.A. Lariviere: The Flames cut Steve Begin.
