Steve Downie traded to the Avalanche … Kyle Quincey ends up with Red Wings … Lightning get 1st round pick

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded winger Steve Downie to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Kyle Quincey. The Lightning then sent Quincey to the Detroit Red Wings for a 2012 1st round pick and defenseman Sebastien Piche.

The Avalanche currently sit 3 points out of the playoffs in the West, but would have to leapfrog 3 teams. They are tied with the Stars at 62 points. The Kings and Flames have 65 points.

Downie (24) carries a $1.85 million cap hit and will be a RFA at the end of the year. Quincey (26) carries a $3.125 million and will also be a RFA at the year. Piche (24) carries a $563,333 cap hit and will be a RFA

The Red Wings originally drafted Quincey in 2003 in the 4th round.
