The NHL and NHLPA may have met Tuesday … NHLPA sends memo to players … Zibanejad staying in N.A. … Courture gets calls for overseas
  • Peter Adler of the Edmonton Journal: Adler said the NHL and the NHLPA’s ‘recess’ is over as of Tuesday morning. Nobody is saying which side made the call to start the talks up.
  • Kevin Allen of the USA Today: The NHLPA is expected to hold internal meetings next week ahead of the NHLs lockout deadline. The NHLPA has already sent out a memo to it’s members outlining what they will need in the event of a lockout. Injured players would still receive their paychecks.

“If you are unfit to play because of a hockey-related injury when a lockout begins, you are entitled to receive your salary until you are fit to play,” the memo said. “If you are currently injured, you should make sure that your condition is fully documented and that your club is aware of it. If you do not receive your salary payment when it becomes due, you should contact your agent and/or the NHLPA legal department immediately.”

The memo also notes that players can sign in other leagues, but might run into issues with their NHL team if they are injured.

“We expect that your NHL club would suspend you without pay until you are fit to play,” the NHLPA memo said. “There also is a possibility that the club might take other disciplinary action. The NHLPA may be able to dispute such suspensions and disciplinary actions under the grievance and arbitration procedure.”

  • Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: Senators Mika Zibanejad (19) doesn’t no whether he’ll start the year in Ottawa with the Senators or with the AHL’s Binghamton Senators.

“I know I’m staying here (in North America) right now,” said Zibanejad. “I don’t have to go back home. It helps out a little bit. The focus is not on two places right now.”

Zibanejad said his concussion problems are behind him and there are no more issues.

  • The Fourth Period: Sidney Crosby has been contacted by 2 European/KHL teams about playing overseas if there is a lockout. Logan Couture has been contracted by teams in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and Switzerland’s National League A (NLA).
